经过24个月的持续开发，Debian项目组正式对外发布了，稳定版的Debian 8，代号为Jessie，将会在接下来的五年里提供支持，并特别感谢了贡献者： Debian Security 团队和 Debian Long Term Support 团队。

Jessie的一大重要变化是默认init系统systemd，可选使用init系统sysvinit。由此带来了很多新特性：更快的启动时间、cgroups 服务，以及一些隔离服务。

其它：

支持UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface，可很好的支持 Windows 8 or later)，更新默认应用，包括LibreOffice、GIMP、 Iceweasel、GNOME、KDE 和 Xfce 桌面环境等。

32-bit PC / Intel IA-32 (i386), 64-bit PC / Intel EM64T / x86-64 (amd64), Motorola/IBM PowerPC (powerpc for older hardware and ppc64el for the new 64-bit (little-endian)), MIPS (mips (big-endian) and mipsel (little-endian)), IBM S/390 (64-bit s390x) and for ARM, armel and armhf for old and new 32-bit hardware, plus arm64 for the new 64-bit AArch64 architecture.
