An element in a Rational XDE model that can be associated to a model element traceability requirement. The most useful model element types for this type of association include class, package, subsystem and actor. Because managing traceability links has a cost, we recommend you trace requirements to the highest level of abstraction in your design to quickly detect what part of your design is affected by requirement change. Although the integration lets you trace to detailed design element (such as attributes and operations), you should consider the value of assessing the impact of requirement change compared with the time spent managing traceability links. The following types of XDE model elements are traceable:
actor
attribute
class
component
enumeration
primitive type
diagram
interface
instance
node
operation
signal
exception
subsystem
